Congratulations Suzanne Armstrong!

Late last year, Suzanne Armstrong was awarded a Victorian Fellowship Award from the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL).



Suzanne is a motivated and dedicated specialist school Principal. In leadership roles, she has shown a commitment to building the capacity of staff, and creating effective school, family and community partnerships, so all students can achieve their full potential within a high quality learning environment.

Suzanne has been principal of Colac Specialist School since July, 2006. Previous leadership roles include Assistant Principal at Warringa Park School in Hoppers Crossing and Leading Teacher at Nelson Park School in Bell Park, Geelong. She has over 30 years’ experience as an educator in government schools, most of this time in the field of special education.


Suzanne is an active member of numerous school Networks and Associations and currently serves on the executive of the Barwon South Principal’s Network. In 2013, Suzanne was awarded the PASS Most Outstanding Principal Award.


Mentoring, including of several mainstream colleagues for the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership ‘Mentoring for First Time Principal’s Program’, coaching, targeted professional development to support continuous improvement, and school community engagement have seen Colac Specialist School gain a reputation as a progressive school community, at the forefront of specialist education.


In 2015, the school was certified by Amaze (Vic) against the ‘Autism Standards for Education’, one of a few schools state-wide endorsed with this status.
